Terms of Use

Last updated: September 2, 2026

Welcome to the website of Laura Cohen Mental Health & Consulting (“the Practice,” “I,” “me,” or “my”). By accessing or using this website, you agree to the following Terms of Use.

These Terms apply to use of this website and its general content. They do not replace the informed consent, privacy, confidentiality, payment, cancellation, or other agreements that apply if you become a counselling or consulting client.

1. Website Information Is Not Counselling or Therapy

The information provided on this website is intended for general educational and informational purposes.

Reading this website, submitting a contact form, sending an email, booking a consultation, or otherwise communicating with the Practice does not, by itself, create a therapist-client relationship.

A professional counselling relationship is established only after we have mutually agreed to work together and the applicable intake and informed-consent process has been completed.

Information on this website should not be considered individualized mental health, medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice.

2. Not an Emergency or Crisis Service

This website, email, contact forms, and online booking systems are not monitored as emergency or crisis services.

If you are experiencing an emergency or believe that you or another person may be in immediate danger, contact 911 or the appropriate emergency service in your location.

For urgent mental health support, contact an appropriate crisis service at 988 or healthcare provider in your area.

3. Counselling and Professional Services

Descriptions of counselling therapy, career counselling, assessments, psychoeducational courses, training workshops, or other professional services on this website are provided to help prospective clients understand the nature of the Practice.

Availability of a service does not guarantee that a particular service is appropriate for every individual.

Before beginning counselling therapy, factors such as your needs, location, scope of practice, professional regulations, availability, and whether the service is an appropriate fit may be considered.

Professional services are provided only in jurisdictions where I am legally and professionally permitted to provide them.

If you become a client, the terms governing your counselling relationship—including confidentiality and its limits, fees, cancellations, record keeping, electronic communication, and other professional matters—will be addressed separately through the informed-consent process.

As an integrative psychotherapy practice, complementary approaches may be incorporated to support insight, emotional processing, self-awareness, relaxation, or other therapeutic goals when clinically appropriate. These may include spiritual, mindfulness-based, somatic, energy-based, symbolic, or other complementary practices. Such approaches are used to support the psychotherapeutic process and are not intended to replace psychotherapy or medical treatment. The inclusion of any complementary approach is individualized and based on the client's clinical presentation, treatment goals, professional judgment, scope of competence, and informed consent.

4. No Guarantee of Outcomes

Counselling, career development and related professional services are collaborative processes. Individual experiences and outcomes vary.

Nothing on this website should be interpreted as a promise, warranty, or guarantee of a particular therapeutic, career, employment, personal, financial, or other outcome.

Testimonials, examples, educational material, or descriptions of therapeutic approaches, if provided, are not guarantees that another person will experience the same results.

5. Professional Credentials and Regulation

Professional titles, credentials, training, memberships, and areas of practice described on this website are intended to accurately represent my professional background and current practice.

As a regulated counselling therapist, my professional services are subject to applicable professional, ethical, and legal requirements. Nothing in these Terms of Use is intended to limit any right, responsibility, professional obligation, or protection that cannot lawfully be limited.

Information about professional standards, regulatory oversight, and the complaints process may be found through the professional and regulatory information provided elsewhere on this website.

6. Privacy and Personal Information

Your privacy is important.

Information collected through this website, including information submitted through contact forms or other online tools, is handled in accordance with the Practice's Privacy Policy and applicable privacy requirements.

Please review the Privacy Policy for information about the collection, use, storage, disclosure, and protection of personal information.

Because ordinary email and internet communications can carry privacy and security risks, please avoid including highly sensitive clinical or personal information in an initial website inquiry unless specifically requested through an appropriate secure system.

7. Online Booking and Third-Party Services

This website may use or link to third-party services for functions such as appointment scheduling, videoconferencing, payment processing, bookkeeping, forms, website hosting, email, or other administrative purposes.

Those services may have their own privacy policies and terms of use. Although reasonable care is taken when selecting services used by the Practice, third-party platforms operate independently and may be subject to their own terms and practices.

A link to or use of a third-party service does not constitute responsibility for all content, functionality, availability, or practices of that third party.

8. Fees, Insurance and Cancellation Policies

Fees and service descriptions displayed on the website are subject to change.

Where cancellation, missed-appointment, payment, insurance, reimbursement, or other financial policies apply to professional services, the policies provided through the applicable booking and informed-consent process will govern.

Clients are responsible for confirming directly with their insurer or benefits provider whether services are eligible for reimbursement under their individual plan. Coverage varies between plans and providers.

9. Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, the original written content, exercises, resources, graphics, branding, worksheets, downloadable materials, course materials, and other original content available through this website are owned by or licensed to Laura Cohen Mental Health & Consulting and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.

You may view and use publicly available website content for your own personal, non-commercial purposes.

You may not reproduce, republish, sell, substantially copy, distribute, modify, teach from, commercially exploit, or present original Practice materials as your own without prior written permission, except where permitted by law.

Sharing a link to publicly available pages on this website is welcome.

10. External Links and Resources

This website may contain links to books, articles, organizations, professional resources, assessment providers, websites, or other external material.

These links may be provided for convenience, education, or further exploration. Their inclusion does not necessarily constitute endorsement of all views, information, services, or practices associated with the external source.

I am not responsible for the content, accuracy, availability, privacy practices, or security of third-party websites.

11. Accuracy and Changes to Website Content

Reasonable efforts are made to keep the information on this website accurate and current. However, professional standards, research, resources, service availability, fees, external links, and other information can change.

Website content may therefore be updated, corrected, added to, or removed without notice.

If information on this website differs from information provided to you directly as part of an active professional relationship, please contact me for clarification.

12. Appropriate Use of the Website

You agree not to use this website in a manner that is unlawful, harmful, abusive, fraudulent, disruptive, or intended to interfere with the security or functioning of the website.

You may not attempt to gain unauthorized access to the website, its systems, accounts, data, or associated services.

13. Website Availability and Limitation of Liability

While reasonable efforts are made to maintain this website, uninterrupted or error-free access cannot be guaranteed.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Practice is not responsible for losses resulting solely from reliance on general website information, temporary website unavailability, third-party websites, external resources, or technical problems outside the Practice's reasonable control.

Nothing in this section limits professional obligations, client rights, regulatory responsibilities, or liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

14. Changes to These Terms

These Terms of Use may be updated periodically to reflect changes to the website, professional practice, technology, or applicable requirements.

The date at the top of this page indicates when the Terms were most recently updated. Continued use of the website following an update constitutes acceptance of the current version of the Terms.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the applicable laws of the Province of Nova Scotia and the federal laws of Canada, without limiting any rights or protections that apply under other applicable laws.
