Client Rights & Complaints

As a Registered Counselling Therapist (RCT) in Nova Scotia, I am regulated by the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (NSCCT).

The NSCCT exists to protect the public and establishes professional and ethical requirements for Registered Counselling Therapists in Nova Scotia.

Clients have the right to receive counselling services that meet applicable professional and ethical standards and to raise questions or concerns about the services they receive.

Professional Standards

My counselling practice is guided by the professional and ethical standards applicable to Registered Counselling Therapists in Nova Scotia.

You may review the following documents:

CCPA Code of Ethics

The Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association's Code of Ethics describes the ethical principles and responsibilities that guide professional counselling practice.

CCPA Standards of Practice

The CCPA Standards of Practice provide further guidance regarding competent and ethical counselling practice.

Concerns or Complaints

I welcome questions about your counselling experience, professional boundaries, confidentiality, informed consent, or other aspects of our work together.

Where appropriate and comfortable for you, you are welcome to raise concerns directly with me. However, you are not required to resolve a concern with me before contacting the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists.

The NSCCT regulates Registered Counselling Therapists and has an independent process for receiving and reviewing complaints about professional conduct or care.

Anyone may contact the College for information about the complaints process or submit a complaint concerning a Registered Counselling Therapist.

There is no fee to file a complaint with the NSCCT.

NSCCT Complaint Information

Please review the NSCCT Complaints Process Infographic, which explains the complaints and professional-conduct process and how clients and members of the public can raise concerns.

You may also visit the NSCCT's Filing a Complaint page for current information about submitting a complaint and obtaining assistance from the College.

If you are unsure whether your concern is grounds for a complaint, you may contact the NSCCT directly for information and guidance.
