Discovering Your Path

Ever ask yourself those big life questions? Like, what should I do with my life?

If you feel like you’re on a quest to find your life’s purpose, here’s the scoop: it’s not always a clear calling, more like a wild adventure. Joseph Campbell, the brains behind “The Hero’s Journey,” gets it. He says your journey might involve random jobs – like going from a grocery clerk to a landscape architect. It’s not about the job; it’s about who you become in the process.

“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.”

– Mark Twain

Campbell warns: your adventure won’t flash a sign saying “Dream job, big bucks guaranteed!” Nope, it usually starts in the scariest part of the woods. Translation: it might be wrapped in doubts, fears, and uncertainty. But guess what? You’ll feel a pull toward it.

Instead of hunting for your life purpose, make your purpose the adventure itself. Hire a career counsellor who is trained in mental health, if you’re unsure – they’re like adventure guides. You won’t know the whole journey’s outcome, so just get to the starting line. Take that first scary step into the unknown.
